Dr. Fresch only knows one way around shows, and that's to call the shots. So, for Shot Callers Vol. 1, he brought together some artists with prior releases and others who will make their debut on House Call Records. This five-track compilation consists of three previously released tracks and two unreleased House Call debuts.
Shot Callers Vol. 1 leads off with three House Call favorites: Dr. Fresch and Glass Petal’s “The Answer,” Marten Hørger and Phace’s “Pow Pow,” and WA-FU’s “LVLZ” — three tracks that showcase the House Call team’s peak dance floor energy. But the two newcomer tracks are no letdowns, inviting you to turn up the volume if you can go any higher.
Leading off for the newcomers is FETISH, who welcomes you into the “Void.” “I designed this track to be full of dark energy,” FETISH described, “thinking of what it would sound like to encounter an alien coming out of a portal in the sky…” Indeed, littered with atmospheric horns and captivating bass, the track takes you into a different dimension, where the horns’ reverb and the overwhelming bassline leave you somewhere distant yet familiar.
But here’s where your heart stops as Fox’d gives you a “Cardiac Time Out,” a bass house track that isn’t just “your mom’s bass house.” A constant ticking clock in both the buildup and breakdown makes it feel as if time is running out. “I thought about making a bass house track so intense that it makes your heart stop,” Fox’d shared. “Alas, you have ‘Cardiac Time Out,’ a track that does its best to bring you up and then hit so hard your heart stops.”
With this summer’s return to live music shows, Shot Callers Vol. 1 could not have come at a better time, chock-full of tracks made to be played all summer long.
