Mize Goes Nuclear With Mind-Melting 'Thought Process' EP Via Wakaan

Article by: Ryan Hood

It has been a long time coming. Mize’s Thought Process EP finally dropped on Wakaan and it is everything we hoped it would be.

Combining dreamy trance synths and melodies with mind-melting bass is Mize’s strength. The eponymous single from this EP was just a tease for what was to come. Mize weaves together sounds that paint a wondrous picture and helps the listener truly get lost in his sound.

“I made these tracks back when I was just starting to play little shows across the country,” Mize said. “I found out where I was at and where I was going.”

Both “Thought Process” and “Shake Off” sound like the peak songs of a set, with crazy emotional toplines and down and dirty basslines.

“‘Thought Process’ and ‘Shake Off’ are straight confetti music. It’s a beautiful moment in the set when they’re dropped, everyone looking at each other and crying,” Mize said. “When I make music, I visualize how it’s going to sound on a massive sound rig.”

“Shake Off” specifically is my favorite track from Mize’s discography to date. The trance beat in the beginning of the song sucks the listener in and starts them on the journey of the number. It builds to an epic drop containing one of the crispiest synth sounds I’ve ever heard. It is a perfect blend of the distorted, mind-melting synths we know from Mize, while adding in a dreamy topline and punishing drum pattern.

“Mind Filth,” Mize’s long-awaited collaboration with Space Wizard, is absolute madness. It perfectly blends each artist's sound, from Space Wizard’s out-of-this-world bass sound and the deep basslines from Mize. This track encompasses all that is good about experimental bass music right now.

Where to even begin with “Laser Focus.” This track paints an auditory landscape of otherworldly proportions, but also feels like this would be the song playing while boxing in a championship fight in space. The drop is carried by strong percussive sounds and mind-blowing bass beats that sound straight out of a sci-fi movie.

“Pipeline” goes in quite a different direction than the rest of the EP, as this drum and bass/halftime tune showcases the deep, bassy synths that put Mize on the map. This tune is eerily reminiscent of tracks from his Imagery EP which was released just over 2 years ago. This track showcases just one of the many directions Mize can go with his music.

“I like being the jack-of-all-trades, master of none, because I can get better at all these different kinds of music,” Mize said.

Even with his first major label release not too far in the rearview mirror, Mize is already looking to the future. He has already released a new mix last month showcasing all new music made since the completion of Thought Process.

“I’m just excited to see where my sound goes and how it evolves,” Mize said.

Mize released his Thought Process Mixtape back in April, which features acapellas from Juicy J, Katy Perry, T-Pain, and many others.
