Deadmau5 Teases Exciting New VR Project on the Unreal Engine

Article By: Thomas Taylor

Canadian Producer and electronic dance music icon deadmau5 took to instagram yesterday to drop a mysterious teaser about goats. Well, goats in virtual reality. The short clip appears to show a brand new VR project in association with Epic Games’ Unreal Engine 3, Geodesic Games and Upsurge Studios.

Featuring the classic mau5 head, wireframe renders of a concert-looking venue, and of course computer generated goats, the innovative producer is clearly doing something very exciting. One theory speculates this project will circumvent the restriction on live shows in current times, akin to what Fortnite has done to great success.

You can check out the trailer above and decide for yourself what the Grammy-nominated artist meant by his cryptic caption, “A breed of goat.” Another theory says that this will be a follow-up entry in the popular Goat Simulator franchise, which also runs on the Unreal Engine 3.

Details are slim at this point, but we do know deadmau5 has released a VR project previously in 2016 with Knoxlabs, in which the player participates in a day-in-the-life of the famously outspoken tech advocate. We also know that the hashtag accompanying the post, #Oberhasli, is a type of dairy-goat.

Unfortunately, the teaser raises far more questions than it answers. Will this project be for the next console generation as well as more powerful VR rigs? How hands-on will the musician be in the project? When will this come out? Why goats and not a Mau5?

Only time will tell. For now, you can listen to his music below and check out his prior VR offerings HERE.
