Protohype Can “See The Light Again” as 2020 Fades Into Darkness

Article by: Jessica Duncan

Underdog Records label owner and dubstep powerhouse Protohype is putting the darkness of 2020 behind him with his first solo release of 2021 “See The Light Again” featuring Meredith Bull. This is Underdog Records’ eleventh release overall since the label’s inception in 2019.

In Protohype’s own words This track is about all of the bad things that have happened during the last year. Now, with lockdown coming to an end, I just think we’ve all been through so much as a community that we can finally see the light at the end of the tunnel. Let’s step forward together and live life!” 2020 was an emotional journey for everyone and “See The Light Again” does a great job of translating those feelings into sounds.

Meredith Bull’s haunting vocals over a melancholy piano melody and thunderous snare in the track’s intro create the sense of being trapped in overwhelming darkness before exploding into a stomping metallic drop. While the first drop leans into the heavier side of dubstep, Protohype works his signature hip hop influenced beats into the second verse. He switches things up again with the second drop, much more melodic than the first with pulsing, bright, layered synths penetrating the darkness like rays of sunlight.

“See The Light Again” will be right at home in the sets of dubstep heavyweights at Lost Lands later this year. Keep up with Protohype and Meredith Bull using the links below and check out our New Music Friday Heat playlist on Spotify.
